The craze for fashions

This is an age of fashion. Gone are the days when people believed in simplicity. Everywhere, people give attention to fashion these days. The modern generation is really devoted to fashions. Fashions are specially prominent among youngsters. The craze for fashions is specially great among the student community especially college and university students.

Boys come, gorgeously dressed, to colleges or universities. They display a large variety of hair-styles. One just comb the hair backward from front, so as to look dignified, other make slanting fissures (clefts). Every boy makes it a point to look very handsome. It is often noticed that boys go about looking appreciatively at their own dresses. They do so even while sitting in the class-room. The shoes are in perfect shine. Some decide to erase the moustaches altogether, while other keep them well-trimmed, making a narrow row of them just above the upper lip. All these things, they feel, are fashionable. Boys also make liberal use of cosmetics. Including creams, hair-oils, powders etc. Keeping hair in order by the use of hair fixers is also quite common among them.

But fashion are mostly of concern to girls. College girls make it a point to give a lead in the matter of fashion everyday. Every now and then, the hair-style or the dress-style undergoes change. Many girls come draped and dressed in costly sarees having gay borders. The blouses are skin tight. Paint and powder are the other aids to beauty used excessively. The hair oils are simply bewitching, because they throw behind a fine perfume over a large distance. Then they adopt artistic methods of gait and move about majestically, flouncing the hips. Their feet move elastically. As a part of fashion, they like to carry only one or two books and note-book, in order to have light burden.

Girls make a special use of hair --some of them make two snake like plaits, while other decide to make a bun at the back. They manage to make lovely curls and tresses of hair. These locks of hair keep hanging by the forehead and wave and even strike against the checks. This view 'kills' boys. Most mordern girls keep their hair quite dry.

Besides hair and dress styles, it is a very common fashion among students to visit restaurants, coffe-bars and cinema-houses. It is quite usual to find boys and girl moving together. Usually one girl chooses to move along with one boy instead of a group. This is being done openly and the nearness of hearts is now display publicly. Due to modernization, the girls doesn't like to study in girls college. They prefer to study in co-educational college. Giving parties at the slightest opportunity is also very common.

Fashions tend to do a great harm to the student community. These waste much of their time. Standing before the life size mirror for long duration for make up or otherwise, and spending sufficient time in outdoor recreational activities are very wasteful. Another result is that students do not take pains in studies. The grades are therefore, increasingly going down. Due to this, extra expenses are incurred in engaging tutors, purchasing guess papers, and others.

Though the waste of time or the expenditure on fashions is very large, yet fashions have come to stay, whether they are good or bad. They have been greatly affecteted by fashions. They are not going to change what may come. However, what is now required is that strong efforts should be made to displace the excessive craze for fashion from the minds of these youngsters. Of course, the students should have a decent appearance showing grace and dignity. But superfluous fashion should be thrown to the winds.
